INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS OUTLAWED - The European Union pulled the plug on the traditional light bulb yesterday when it agreed to start banning them within a year. The fade-out, to make way for energy-efficient bulbs, could begin as early as September with a ban on the 100-watt bulb, EU experts agreed in Brussels. It would be extended to lower wattages, with a complete ban of the familiar incandescent bulb across all EU states by 2012.
